The data cable is the wide flat cable 1 in the picture. I would install the chipset driver listed on that page. I’m not certain what you mean by “when highlighted a screen appeared with a red cross over it in the tool bar,” but you haven’t reported any symptoms that suggest a problem with your hard drive, and a Device status of “This device is working properly” is what you should be seeing. It appears that the CD drive has power but that there is another minipprt problem, possibly the drive itself, possibly the data cable, or possibly the motherboard of the computer. In reply to Seymours’s post on March 15, Just as a heads up, since it windows doesn’t allow you to uninstall it I tried to delete it through registry and lost the ability to see any networks while the hardware itself was recognized and working.
Before I did that I followed your instructions on using the Device Manager but was unsuccessful in getting my CD drive working again.
